I didn't want to let another week go by without touching base with everyone. Sometimes I feel like there isn't too much excitement going on to write about, but it is probably still important for me to reflect on the events of the week.
This week Dave and I attended the funeral of a former neighbor and friend from Spanish Fork. His name was Bill Shelton. He was the oldest member of our ward in Spanish Fork. I was his wife's visiting teacher and served with his daughter in the the Primary Presidency when we lived there. It was such a shock to see his obituary in the paper. It was nice to see old friends at the funeral. I haven't seen many of them for several years but yet they still hold a special place in my heart. Our house in Spanish Fork was one of the first ones built out in the middle of no where at the time. Now there are tons of homes, schools, churches etc. We didn't even have phone service for six months when we moved into our first home. As new neighbors moved in we got to know them really well. We all had babies together, put in our lawns, fences, made home improvements, we were all just in the beginning stages of parenthood. It was fun to be in a place where almost everyone could relate to the experiences you were going through, everyone was so kind and supportive. We made many friends and our kids were always running around the neighborhood. Where we live now definitely has a different dynamic to it. There aren't too many people in our same position, they are either older with grown children or grandparents. I guess with each stage of life we are given new experiences and new situations to help us grow.
The kids' last day of school is Thursday. It is hard to believe it is summer already. Our weather went from 90 degrees back down to the 50's. It has been raining a lot this week. The girls had softball games canceled due to the rain. We are going to try and go to the cabin tomorrow for Memorial Day and see what condition it is in after the long, snowy winter. My dad is coming up the end of the week to help us decide how to build a bathroom in it. It will be so much more pleasant to stay long term when we can wash and have indoor plumbing! Here at home the lawn is looking green and the flowers are blooming. This time of year is really pretty before it gets too hot and dries things out. We have lots of fire warnings and brush fires in the mountains when things get dry. It is always a little scary living right on the end of the mountain. There have been a couple of evacuations before we lived here because of close calls with fire coming over the mountain.
David and I just got back from Seminary graduation. The Bishops and their wives and the Stake President give out the diplomas to their Ward members. It is amazing to see how quickly the kids grow up and are off to college. I sat there thinking in four years Cason will be graduating. It seems like a long time away, but I know it will go so fast. After the graduation ceremony we were able to go visit two of our Ward members (who I just happen to visit teach also) who just had surgery this week. It was nice to visit with them and make sure they are doing well.
The kids are doing great and are driving us crazy, but that is normal. We are still holding firm to our date night once a week. It adds sanity to our busy schedules. This weekend we were able to go out to dinner with some of our friends to Sundance. It is so beautiful up at the ski resort. The food was great and the conversation even better.
